On March 7, 2024 in honor of Teacher’s Day at University “Fehmi Agani” in Gjakova, an activity was organized for the presentation of two projects by their leader, Prof. Dr.Lulzim Zeneli. The titles of the projects were:

1. The contamination of milk with Heavy Metals and Biomarkers of Effects: Contamination and Risk assessment.

2. The environmental Pollution with Asbestos and materials containing Asbestos (MPA)- Toxic Effects.

The first project addresses the issue of milk contamination with heavy metals, a problem which has a direct impact on public health. Including an in-depth analysis of the content of essential macro elements and microelements in milk, as well as determination of the content of toxic metals as Cadmium (Cd) and Lead (Pb) in the area of the villages of Obiliq, the findings show that the content of these two heavy metals of severely exceeded values allowed according to the standards of the International milk federation (IDF standard 1979) and according to the Codex Alimentarius Committee (2007). This discovery serves as an important signal for the need of urgent measures to protect the health of local community and develop agricultural practices in the affected area, as well as for the development of consumer protection policies. This project was funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MASHTI).

On the other hand, the second project focused on environmental pollution with Asbestos and Asbestos-containing materials. Asbestos is a dangerous material that can cause many health problems, including respiratory diseases and lung cancer. By identifying the toxic effects of environmental pollution with asbestos, these projects provide an important base for developing strategies to protect public health and promote a clean environment.
