The Diabetic Foot Unit was inaugurated at the Faculty of Medicine of the University "Fehmi Agani" in Gjakova, within the SMAHPC project, funded by the Erasmus + Program.

The inauguration was attended by Rector Prof. Ass. Dr. Artan Nimani, where he emphasized that the opening of the Diabetic Foot Unit is an important achievement for our university, which was realized thanks to the work and tireless dedication of the academic staff engaged in the SMAHPC project, funded by the Erasmus + Program. Rector Nimani added that the University "Fehmi Agani" in Gjakova is committed to serve the community through the capacities offered. On behalf of the students, the management and academic staff thanked the industrial board, who made a valuable contribution to the journey of the Faculty of Medicine.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Idriz Berisha expressed his gratitude to the participants and congratulated all those who were engaged in the project for the opening of the Diabetic Foot Unit. Whereas, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Dardan Koçinaj informed the participants how the idea for the formation of the Diabetic Foot Unit was born and international experiences.

Invited to the inauguration of the opening of the Diabetic Foot Unit were also the industrial board, composed of, Dr. Luan Nagavci - director of the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Gjakova, Mr. Hilmi Shala - Director of the Regional Hospital of Gjakova "Isa Grezda", Dr. HyrijeBlakaj- Director of eONIX SPA, Banja e Pejësdhe Dr. Luan Gola - Internist diabetologist, who presented the topic "Diabetes and complications of diabetes, with special emphasis on the diabetic foot".

Afterwards, the students of the Faculty of Medicine presented the student experience in the Diabetic Foot Unit.

At the end of the activity, the industrial board, students and academic staff were rewarded with gratitude for the contribution given to the implementation of the Diabetic Foot Unit at the Faculty of Medicine.

The following services are planned in the Diabetic Foot Unit:

• Visits of patients with diabetes, with changes in the diabetic foot;

• Treatment of changes in the diabetic foot;

• Educating diabetic patients and their families about;

• Measurement of glycemia;

• Insulin intake;

• Hygienic care of the foot;

• Healthy eating in diabetics;

• Instructions for recreation in diabetics, etc.

The Diabetic Foot Unit will serve for the education of the students of the Faculty of Medicine, their direct involvement to gain the necessary competencies for the treatment of the patient.
