The “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova (UFAGJ) participated in the UNIMED General Assembly 2026, held on October 7 and 8, 2026, in Barcelona, Spain. At this important international event, UFAGJ was represented by the Rector of the University, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Drilon Bunjaku, together with Bujar Nura from the International Relations Office (IRO).

The UNIMED General Assembly is one of the network’s main annual events. This year, it brought together around 200 representatives of member universities, partner institutions, and other higher education stakeholders, serving as an important platform for dialogue, exchange of experiences, and the strengthening of international academic cooperation. This year’s edition was particularly significant as it also marked the 35th anniversary of UNIMED.

During the Assembly, strategic issues of importance to universities and the development of higher education in the Euro-Mediterranean region were discussed, including international academic cooperation, opportunities within the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes, support for students and researchers in crisis-affected areas, the development of competencies and micro-credentials, active student engagement, as well as the role of universities in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

The “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova (UFAGJ), as a voting member of UNIMED, also participated in the electoral process for the selection of the network’s President and Steering Committee for the new 2026–2029 mandate. This participation reflects UFAGJ’s active engagement in decision-making processes and in further developing inter-university cooperation at the international level.

As part of the Assembly, UFAGJ representatives had the opportunity to establish new contacts and exchange ideas with representatives of various universities and institutions, with the aim of identifying opportunities for academic cooperation, student and staff mobility, the development of joint research projects, and participation in international initiatives.

UFAGJ’s active participation in UNIMED reaffirms the institution’s commitment to internationalization, the expansion of strategic partnerships, and the strengthening of the University’s position within the European and Euro-Mediterranean higher education area. Through its engagement in this network, UFAGJ aims to expand opportunities for students and academic staff, strengthen scientific cooperation, and contribute to initiatives shaping the future of higher education.
