Conference of Rectors of Public Universities in Kosovo held its next meeting

On July 4th, 2024, the Rector of the “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova, Prof. Ass. Dr. Drilon Bunjaku, participated in the meeting of the Conference of Rectors of Public Universities of Kosovo, held at the “Ukshin Hoti” University in Prizren.

During this important meeting, the rectors of Kosovo’s public universities discussed a range of key issues impacting the quality and management of higher education in the country.

The rectors reviewed the current process of accreditation for study programs and the universities themselves. The discussion also covered the challenges and obstacles encountered during the accreditation process, as well as opportunities for its improvement.

Rector Bunjaku informed the Conference of Rectors about the challenges faced by the “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova during the institutional and program accreditation processes. He also noted that due to delays by the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) in accrediting programs, the university has reached a point where it cannot admit students in three programs because they are still undergoing the accreditation process.

To enhance transparency, accountability, and the establishment of an objective standard in Kosovo, Rector Bunjaku proposed that the Conference of Rectors request the Kosovo Accreditation Agency to publish a complete list of the holders of all accredited programs in the Republic of Kosovo, in order to increase KAA’s transparency. However, this proposal did not receive full support from all rectors at this stage.

Another important topic of discussion was the admission process for new students. The rectors shared experiences and best practices from their universities, aiming to ensure a fair and transparent process for admitting new students.  Additionally, during the rectors’ meeting, there was also a discussion on the request from the State Council of Quality (SCQ) and the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) regarding the declaration of academic staff.

This meeting is part of a series of regular gatherings aimed at improving the quality of public higher education in Kosovo and enhancing cooperation between universities.
