“Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova Hosts the Western Kosovo Universities Working Group for Sustainable Tourism Development
On 30 April 2024, in Gjakova, the University “Fehmi Agani” in Gjakova hosted an important meeting aimed at fostering cooperation between universities and municipalities in Western Kosovo. The event, titled “Working Group of Universities of Western Kosovo,” was initiated by the Regional Command of Western Forces of Kosovo under the leadership of Commander Alessandro Giampietro.
The main objective of the workshop was the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining collaborative efforts between stakeholders, including universities and municipalities, to promote sustainable tourism development in the region. Representatives from three regional universities participated, contributing their knowledge and expertise to the drafting process.
The University was represented by Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Projects, Prof. Ass. Dr. Nazli Tyfekçi, along with Ms. Freskina Mula Ermeni, an official from the same office. In the context of the Memorandum of Understanding, Ms. Tyfekçi emphasized the responsibilities assigned to the university, reinforcing its commitment to collaborative efforts.
Delegates from the University of Peja “Haxhi Zeka” also participated, with Vice-Rector for Teaching, Student Affairs and Scientific Research Alma Shehu providing significant contributions. The University of Prizren “Ukshin Hoti” was represented by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement Serdan Kervan, who also contributed to the final draft of the agreement.
The involvement of these respected institutions marked an important step toward strengthening cooperation within the higher education sector of Western Kosovo, particularly in the field of sustainable tourism development. Beyond academia, the working group was enriched by the presence of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) such as Celim and RTM.
The Working Group of Universities of Western Kosovo highlights the importance of partnership and collective action in addressing regional challenges and advancing shared goals. Through continued cooperation and dialogue, participating institutions and municipalities are expected to take meaningful steps toward promoting sustainable tourism and fostering socio-economic development in Western Kosovo.
