Percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with acute myocardial infarction in population of Kosovo

“Percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with acute myocardial infarction in population of Kosovo” is full time (33 months) PhD scholarship, starting from November 2017. The aims of this project are to study the treatment and outcomes of the Acute Coronary Syndrome patients before start of PCI in Kosovo; of the ACS patients after the start of immediate percutaneous coronary intervention in Kosovo and to compare the efficacy of modern treatment in comparison with conservative treatment of acute coronary syndromes.

Project: Percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with acute myocardial infarction in population of Kosovo

Aims

The present study aims to:

1. Study the treatment and outcomes of the Acute Coronary Syndrome patients before start of PCI in Kosovo

2. Study the treatment and outcomes of the Acute Coronary Syndrome patients after the start of percutaneous coronary intervention in Kosovo

3. To compare the efficacy of modern treatment in comparison with conservative treatment of acute coronary syndromes

Aims; the present study aims to: 1) Study the treatment and outcomes of the Acute Coronary Syndrome patients before start of PCI in Kosovo, 2) Study the treatment and outcomes of the ACS patients after the start of immediate percutaneous coronary intervention in Kosovo, 3) To compare the efficacy of modern treatment in comparison with conservative treatment of acute coronary syndromes.

Materials and Methods; this will be a retrospective and prospective cohort study. For the purpose of the study blood samples and all necessary data collected from the patients will be analyzed and processed in the Medical University of Vienna.

Statistics: data will be processed by statistical parameters and will be calculated in a proper manner.

Expected Results and Conclusions: this study shall contribute in obtaining information on the importance and efficacy of modern treatment for coronary artery disease for the general population of Kosovo. We expect that efficacy of revascularization form of treatment for acute coronary syndromes remains superior to immediate thrombolysis.

We also expect that the prognosis and outcomes of the patients treated with PCI are more favorable than in patients who underwent conservative treatment without PCI in the past years

Project plan

Patients

The study has to be approved by the institutional ethics committee and complies with the Declaration of Helsinki including current revisions and the Good Clinical Practice guidelines. The procedures followed will be in accordance with institutional guidelines. All patients have to give written informed consent before the study.

For the purposes of the study blood samples will be obtained from patients hospitalized for Acute coronary syndrome at the UCCK – Clinic of Cardiology, and for the treatment of ACS in the past years the data of patients will be collected in the patients protocols.

The data and blood samples will be analyzed and processed in the Medical University of Vienna.
